COVID-19 Response

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Haere mai and welcome to our COVID-19 Response questions page.

To ensure that we can offer ongoing support to all our clients under COVID Orange alert level ADL will offer counselling via phone, Zoom or Microsoft Teams when face to face meetings are not possible.

Face-to-face services for individuals and groups have resumed under managed conditions – following the recommended guidelines for social distancing, voluntary mask wearing and good hygiene practices. These will remain in place while COVID transmission is at its current level in our community. This applies to all four of our regional service centres; in Southland, Otago, Central Lakes and South Canterbury.

When providing face-to-face service, ADL are able to see both vaccinated and unvaccinated clients.

Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions around our Covid 19 response.

  • Can I be seen without a vaccination?

Yes, ADL can provide services to both vaccinated and unvaccinated clients. We will still need to know your vaccination status, but only so that we can put in place the right health and safety measures to keep you and others safe during face-to-face interactions.

Please be aware that some staff may not be able to work with unvaccinated clients.

  • Can I be seen if I’m vaccinated but have a cold?

We ask that you stay at home if you are sick and advise your clinician who can arrange to have the session via Zoom or phone, or reschedule the appointment.  You can still get Covid 19 even if you are vaccinated.

If you have cold, flu or Covid 19 symptoms, please contact your GP or pharmacy to book a Covid test.

Please call us to let us know if you need to cancel an appointment. You can make a new time once your Covid test comes back with a pass to say you don’t have Covid. You can also be seen via Zoom or phone as a Telehealth appointment.

  • What happens if I have been in close contact with someone who has Covid?

If you live, work or have been at a location of interest at the same time as someone with COVID-19, the best thing you can do is get a Covid test and stay home until you get a negative result.

We ask that you call us to let us know if you have to miss a face to face appointment while you are waiting for your Covid test to come in, or if you are asked to self-isolate.  We can set up a Telehealth appointment via Zoom or phone, or reschedule your face to face appointment.

You can find out more about being a close contact on the Covid 19 website.
